Solar Power Minus the Red Tape

Democratic Gov. Josh Stein notched a clean energy win this week when the Republican-controlled legislature passed a bill that could make it cheaper and simpler to install rooftop solar panels and battery systems on residents’ homes.

The measure, tucked inside a sweeping regulatory reform bill, is nothing for climate advocates to write home about in the face of the General Assembly’s successful repeal of North Carolina’s interim carbon goal last year. And it won’t negate an April move by the state’s top energy regulator to pause all new utility-scale solar and battery projects.
